License

Carrying a cup of hot chai gives one social license to walk awkwardly. Other ways to obtain this license are to be on a moving bus, or to be probably-drunk.

Mmmm… Chai…. I haven’t found a good Chai in Germany yet. Jeannette says that one of the Indian restaurants that closed has good Chai. But this restaurant closed before I could try it.
I would add moving train to your list. Or maybe to be more accurate, accelerating train (either with positive or negative acceleration). I was on a train yesterday, upon which I visited the toilet when the train’s velocity was zero. While I was taking care of business, the acceleration changed from 0 to some non-zero amount, which led to problems (which was probably enhanced due to my standing position), in both with the proper trajectory of the waste stream and the lid/seat combo of the waste disposal unit. It was really a two-handed, tow-footed job at that point. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I had a cup of hot Chai at the same time. Probably it would have resulted in scalding in places not normally acquainted with Chai. And I don’t mean the toilet of car 7 of IRE 4714. Please note, that thoght I had had a beer or two that afternoon, I don’t think I was anywhere in the realm of probably-drunk.

On a completely different, but somehow related note, all this talk of acceleration and trajectory reminds me of Physics classes at ISU. What was that joke that we had about sines or cosines or whatever it was? Something about how to tell which one was which. I seem to remember you and I and RH and maybe even MB and/or TM laughing a lot about it. Too bad I don’t remember the whole shebang.

what IS it with geeks and Chai? Ah well, as long as Jeannette and I benefit, I guess it doesn’t matter!
